What we install

We work across three service lines: full system installation, ductless mini-splits for the houses that were never ducted, and repair and diagnostics on systems that have stopped performing. Which one fits your house depends on whether it has usable ductwork and what it is heated with today.

Sizing before selling

We size the system for your house first, then pick the equipment. That calculation is room by room, not a whole-house rule of thumb. It accounts for insulation, window area, air leakage and orientation, because two houses of identical floor area on the same street routinely need different systems.

An oversized system short-cycles, wearing the compressor and never settling into its efficient range. An undersized one runs continuously and hands off to backup electric heat, producing the hydro bill a heat pump is meant to avoid.

Square-foot sizing rules were designed for gas furnaces and do not work for heat pumps. Using furnace rules on a heat pump results in oversized equipment that costs more to run.

The electrical check

We perform a CEC Rule 8-200 load calculation before quoting to verify your electrical panel capacity. Many 200-amp services carry a heat pump with capacity to spare, and some 100-amp services do too.

If an electrical upgrade is needed, it adds $2,000 to $5,000, and you may qualify for electrical service upgrade support through CleanBC.

Technical Safety BC issues all electrical permits for heat pump installations in our area.

Rebates handled at the front

The CleanBC Energy Savings Program provides income-qualified grants for home heat pumps. To receive provincial rebates, you must work with a contractor registered with the program before the work happens.

We check your eligibility and rebate options at the start of your project. Both provincial rebate programmes require a CleanBC Better Homes registered contractor, and we maintain that active status.

If you are switching from electric baseboards, you can claim up to $4,000 through the Home Renovation Rebate Program with no income test.

Built for this coast

Our coastal climate shapes how we specify heat pumps for local homes. Because our coastal winters are mild and wet, a cold-climate heat pump keeps heating down to about -25°C without backup heat. Salt off the harbour attacks outdoor coils and fasteners, so we spec coated coils and stainless hardware on exposed lots before the unit ever goes in — neither can be added later. And because most of the housing on this hillside predates ductwork, ductless is what we end up installing more than anything else.
